A blanket for the little one

April 26, 2010

When I got to know that I will have a baby I certainly wanted a diaper bag… Lucky me we have a great variety of them. And I knew I want to make something very special for my little one. Something she will keep when she has grown up. Maybe dedicated for her first little one?! As I am a passionate knitter what you could read here and here. I decided to knit a cosy, warm blanket, where I could wrap her in when it’s cold. Which keeps her comfortable anywhere we go, which gives her the feeling of being home while traveling. So I grubbed through my different knitting books, Internet places and at last found this pattern at twist-collective (an on-line knitting-mag, which I really like). It is my first piece I knitted in the steek-method: At technique you use when you want to knit fair isle. You knit the piece in round and after sewing across the steeks you can cut it with scissors and you will have a flat piece. I knitted monkey and ring square like this, then put them together by knitting a double layered edge. I enjoyed knitting it very much. To much. As I got a heavy tendon sheath inflammation… But it was worth it! I thought about my little one in every loop I knitted. All my love is in that merino blanket:) But see here how it looks like:

Hope she likes it and keeps it a long time!

Winter, where are you?

November 20, 2009

We have lots of nice woolen hats that want to be worn during cold times. But here it’s about 10° warm and it’s raining. Not the perfect woolen hat weather. We want sunshine and cold temperatures! That’s much nicer than rain! Looking forward to christmas we of course want cold weather. We’d enjoy snow as well!

All these hats are hand-knit in Bolivia of Alpaca wool. Being curious I just read about the Alpaca animal. In my naivety I always thought Alpaca is a sheep, but it is a camelid domesticated in South America for the wool production. And you know what: Alpaca wool is soooo soft, especially in the deluxe mixture: baby alpaca and silk…hmmm.

I always remember my grandmothers socks and scarfs made from sheep’s wool which were really prickly. We (me and my sisters) never wore the scarfs because they were so prickly. Sometimes we had to, because my grandmother invested lots of time in these scarfs and socks and we wanted to do her a favour: she elevated the sheep, gave them food every day, spun the thread herself and then knitted the socks. These were really ecological socks and scarfs!

Patterns for Wrist Warmers in two Styles

October 20, 2009

A promised last week here the two different patterns for my invented wrist warmers. They are really easy to knit. Only the picot crochet ending and the knitted in pearls are a little more complex. If there are any questions about the patterns, don’t hesitate to contact me. I will try to explain and help as good as I’m able to. Just click the links below to download the patterns in either German or English or go to our pattern, tutorial and recipes page and get them there.

At least: New Shawls from Blaumaxx

June 9, 2009

We waited desperatly for their arrival, now they are here. The new shawls from Blaumaxx (100% cotton).

The colors are great and they are so soft and cosy you don’t want to take them off again. We have two different color styles: plain and gradient. Do we really have to sell them? I want to keep them all.
