Beuteltiere’s birthday

April 21, 2010

On Saturday we celebrated our tiny little shop’s first birthday. It was a great party! Thank you to all the guests, clients and friends for coming by and celebrating with us! And a special thank you to our neighbours Sabine and Janet from Pomeranza Design Ranch who gave a fantastic birthday cake to us!

Psst… Can you see the latest tiny little Beuteltier in the Beutel?!

Sarah Illenberger

April 16, 2010

Surfing through the Internet I found an article about Sara Illenberger. She is a Berlin based creative who’s work isn’t easy to grab and define in one simple box.

“Chili con carne recipe”

“missunderstandings in love”

“Do you believe in the One Love?” (big poll from NEON magazine)

She transforms stories, expressions and themes in unique and extraordinary way. The funny, often sarcastic way she spots the gist of the matter shows the wide range of her creativity. She works  almost alone for different commercial or editorial clients and occasionally works with a photographer. My inspiration of the day.

Happy Weekend everybody and see you Saturday at our big Birthday party!

either in the shop in Berlin, Prenzlauer Berg or in our online-shop.

How it works?

Bring a print of this blog post to the shop and you get 10% off on all your purchases or visit Beuteltiere online and use the code BGMarsupialia upon checkout for your 10% discount. This special birthday offer is valid from April 4th to April 30th 2010.

PS: Further birthday activities will follow. These activities will take part later, because easter is not  the perfect date for activities like that. So…be patient. I am sure you won’t miss it.

Furniture find: SchubLaden

March 31, 2010

During my trip to the fair for leather goods in Offenbach (near Frankfurt Main) two weeks ago I pages through the Mobil magazine by Deutsche Bahn that always lays in the train and found an article about a young designer from Berlin who makes wonderful furniture of old drawers. Her business is called SchubLaden and is located in Berlin Kreuzberg. You can even bring her your old drawers and designer Franziska Wodicka makes a nice piece of furniture of it. It’s such a nice idea that really contrasts will all Ikea furniture and clean chic designer furniture. I love it. Put on my wish list!

For all the english speaking readers: the word Schhubladen means drawers in english. But the name SchubLaden here is a word play with the work Laden, shop in english.

Oh I could post a lot more of these fantastic drawer objects.

Im Salon.

March 10, 2010

I already wrote last Friday that I will go to Im Salon organized by Frau Dietel in her tiny jewelery atelier in Berlin Friedenau. But I still owe you a report of the event.

The start of the event was quite funny, because Daniela’s toilet was blocked and there were two plumbers working on that while outside the toilet there were 10-15 people drinking rosé Prosecco and getting to know each other. Besides the penetrating smell we survived the situation quite well. About two hours late the event could finally start and we all sat down to listen to a lecture of Britta Glasser and Matthias Benz about their trip to Uzbekistan and Tadzhikistan. Wow these two countries looked so great! I saw really impressive pictures and now I am being catched by the travel bug! But unfortunately at the moment I can’t…

Plans for tonight.

March 5, 2010

Last week there was a mysterious card in the mailbox: an invitation to join Frau Dietels event called “Im Salon“. The theme of the First Salon event will be Okzient-Orient. I am really curious to go there this evening, to get to know nice people…

You will hear more about the Salon next week.

Spring spying

February 25, 2010

Spring is on its way. There is no doubt about that. Today when I was on my way to the shop, I was pleasantly surprised that I wasn’t instantly hit by a freezing wind,  a wind which I’ve unfortunately have been hit by – one too many times during these past few months. But not today. I put on my (fake) Ray-Bans, and could actually feel the sun’s rays on my back during the entire 15-minutes-walk, from my house to the shop. It felt nice. It was like meeting an old friend, that you haven’t met in months…Exhiting!

I’ve been doing some spying today, spying on fellow “Spring:ers” like myself. It’s fun to see that people dare you step their foot outside their door again, it’s been a long Winter. I’m hoping that this is it – it feels like this could be it – but you never know… In Sweden we have this great expression: “Du ska aldrig ropa “Hej” förrän du har kommit över bäcken.” (Translation: You should never say “Hello” before you’ve crossed the river.) It means that you should be careful getting ahead of yourself. I think this expression has proved itself right way too many times this Winter…

Well, I think Berlin is on the right track. That is more than I can say about Sweden. My mother sent me a picture of our Labrador Frida, playing in the snow. Look at the height difference, comparing the dog to the snow. I must add, our dog is not very big – but come on…

Neu im Kiez. New in the neighbourhood: Je länger je lieber

Reactions.

February 15, 2010

The idea for today’s post hit me this morning while I was looking out the window and saw two women passing by the shop window. Their way of passing by was pretty special: they were both pushing a stroller, not stopping in front of the window, but both turning their heads simultaneously to our shop window. That is one way how people react to our shop. “Oh my good they have so nice things! Don’t look at it too close, I don’t have money to spend on bags or accessories.” Lucky us that they remember us when they want to spend some money.

Another way how people, mostly women, react on our shop. They stop in front and stare into the window. It’s extremely interesting to observe the voyeurs clandestinely, e.g.  when the shop is closed on the Sunday and I am standing incognito near the shop and people are offensively staring at the products in the window, pointing a finger on their favourites and loudly commenting. That’s really interesting and funny.

Well pointing a finger on the favourites is not my favourite, because the shop windows need to be cleaned afterwards and I am the one doing it and it’s not my most beloved job.

Studs, studs, studs…

February 8, 2010

It’s already some time ago that I went to the Premium during Berlin Fashion Week and still I have some posts in mind about that event. One of these posts you will get today:

While walking around the fair I found studs (Nieten in German) everywhere. Studs on bags, shoes, gloves, clothes…simply everywhere. So girls… keep in mind that studs are still a big theme for Autumn/Winter 2010/11.
