Furniture find: SchubLaden

March 31, 2010

During my trip to the fair for leather goods in Offenbach (near Frankfurt Main) two weeks ago I pages through the Mobil magazine by Deutsche Bahn that always lays in the train and found an article about a young designer from Berlin who makes wonderful furniture of old drawers. Her business is called SchubLaden and is located in Berlin Kreuzberg. You can even bring her your old drawers and designer Franziska Wodicka makes a nice piece of furniture of it. It’s such a nice idea that really contrasts will all Ikea furniture and clean chic designer furniture. I love it. Put on my wish list!

For all the english speaking readers: the word Schhubladen means drawers in english. But the name SchubLaden here is a word play with the work Laden, shop in english.

Oh I could post a lot more of these fantastic drawer objects.

My Favourites

March 29, 2010

It has been a while since we did a “My Favourites”, so I decided that it was time for a new blog entry in that category. But – not on a new product, actually on an old one, a product, that, according to me, is perfect for spring/summer…Einkaufsbeutel

The product I’m talking about is the Einkaufsbeutel (Eng.Trans. Shopping Bag) by Fredsbruder, an old-school shopping bag in cotton with leather handles. Perfect for spring and summer season, with its bright and happy colours! And it hardly takes up any space at all! You see, the Fredsbruder design team have been very inventive yet again, you can actually put the little shopping bag into its “bottom” , and voilà – your bag is gone and the only thing that you have left is a little leather pocket! Perfect for weekend getaways to exotic destinations, where you don’t have room for bags, since you’ve already packed your whole summer wardrobe – am I right ladies?

How to Wear Scarfs and Shawls – The Square 01

March 26, 2010

Last summer we started a how to wear scarves and shawls series on the blog where we showed different ways to wear rectangular scarves. As we have lots of triangle or square scarves this season it’s time to continue this series with other forms of scarves.

So today the first edition of the series relaunch with a fantastic square from Jago called Biewer (Jago products have dogs names this season. Last season there were birds names. I’m curious what comes next?!) The scarf  is a 75 x 75 cm square made of silk and cotton. Very cosy.

How to do:

Enjoy the weekend everybody! Enjoy the nice weather!

Spring yourself!

March 22, 2010

We’ve had a great couple of days here at the shop – we had so much going on in the shop last Saturday that we weren’t even able to do all the little things that we do, while taking care of our customers: like producing new labels for new products, cleaning up, redecorating… There is a lot that has to be done!

The last few times that I’ve been here, I couldn’t help but notice that there’s been one item in particular that we’ve been selling a lot of – the Cotton Scarves from Blaumax! These pretty things, available in many – MANY – colours, can lighten up any “transition-coat”. And the best thing is – they’re comfortable – and cheap!

I feel guilty …

March 19, 2010

… because I can’t find the time to write nice blog posts every day in the moment. I always hear Holly Beckers voice in my ear: “Consistency!” One and a half-year ago Katrin and I attended a lecture organized by Dawanda where Holly Becker from the famous blog Decor8 told bloggers or to-be bloggers (like us in that moment) that consistency is VERY important when you have a blog. When you say you write daily or every Monday that you stick to your schedule and really write daily or eg. every Monday. Every blog reader wants readers to come by regularly and so you shouldn’t disappoint them by not sticking to your schedule. If readers come by and don’t find something new on the blog, they might never come back.

What is your opinion about that? Do you miss Beuteltieres daily posts? Did you notice actually that there at not that many posts in the moment?

Pomeranza loves Beuteltiere.

March 17, 2010

Pomeranza loves Beuteltiere because we are their best coffee clients. For all those who don’t know who Pomeranza is: Pomeranza Design Ranch is our neighbour shop run by Sabine and Janet. The girls have a very nice coffee machine and they sell delicious coffee. That’s why we always go over there to get our coffee and don’t use our own coffee machine. And that’s why the girls next-door love us: we are their best coffee clients! Within one year Beutetliere consumed 390 coffee. I just counted all the coffee cards where  Pomeranza marks every coffee and we get a free coffee in the end and in the beginning of each card.

Thank you girls for the nice neighbourship! Beuteltiere wish you a sucessful 2nd business year that will start next Sunday 21.03.2010 with a big party at Pomeranza: Everybody is invited to come by from 13.00 to 18.00h. Infortunately I am not in Berlin this weekend to attend the party.

PS: Beuteltiere love you too, Pomeranza.

I am back!

March 16, 2010

I am so happy to be back! As Barbara already told you, I spent the first days of the last week in a hospital. It turned out, that the squeezing feeling in my left side was not just a muscle that I accidently squeezed in my sleep – it was actually Pyelonephritis – a kidney infection. So after running some tests and giving me an ultrasound, the doctors tell me that I have to stay there for a few days, since my infection apparently was that bad…yikes! So they put me in a wheel chair (I was not allowed to walk on my own), and drove me up to the 15th floor, where I got my own bed, right next to the window…with the most amazing view (you have to focus on the good things, right?)! As soon as I got out of the wheel chair, I got hooked up to my meds, and just fell right asleep…totally exhausted!

I stayed at the hospital for 4 days, and the day before I got released, I was SO bored that I did not know what to do with myself. After reading every magazine 3 times, watching TV for hours, and not being able to walk further than to the nurse’s station – you get bored out of your mind! Luckily, my mom had the opportunity to come and help me with some things, (thanks mom!) and to entertain me! What would I have done without her?

So, one week has passed since I was released from the hospital, and I am feeling better. I still have to take my antibiotics, but that is nothing compared to how I felt 10 days ago.

Thank god for doctors. And mothers.

Sorry for my absence.

March 15, 2010

I am sorry for my absence the last days. I was really stressed by bookkeeping and tons of new bags arriving here end of last week. The fiscal authorities breathing down my neck, because I was already 2 days late with the sales tax report and two huge boxes of bags from Property of… in the shop that I couldn’t unpack because of the book-keeping… A big thank you to Nadja, Katrin’s sister, who came by to unpack the bags on Thursday evening.Today I finally managed to put price tags on the bags and place some of them in the shop.

I don’t know exactly how many hours I worked last week, but I think it must have been about 60 hours. I was really exhausted on Saturday evening and couldn’t wait so spend a relaxed evening in bed with my book and sleep long on Sunday. Thank god Anna is recovered and will replace me in the shop tomorrow morning. I really need to buy food! I even don’t have any pasta at home.

Im Salon.

March 10, 2010

I already wrote last Friday that I will go to Im Salon organized by Frau Dietel in her tiny jewelery atelier in Berlin Friedenau. But I still owe you a report of the event.

The start of the event was quite funny, because Daniela’s toilet was blocked and there were two plumbers working on that while outside the toilet there were 10-15 people drinking rosé Prosecco and getting to know each other. Besides the penetrating smell we survived the situation quite well. About two hours late the event could finally start and we all sat down to listen to a lecture of Britta Glasser and Matthias Benz about their trip to Uzbekistan and Tadzhikistan. Wow these two countries looked so great! I saw really impressive pictures and now I am being catched by the travel bug! But unfortunately at the moment I can’t…

Birthday.

March 9, 2010

Today is my birthday and unfortunately I am working all day in the shop, because Anna is ill and Katrin on maternity leave. But friends and family do their best to keep me away from work and call me, write me text messages or emails. What a nice feeling that other people think of me. A big thank you and a hug to everybody who wished my a happy birthday today (and a hug as well to those who forgot my birthday ;-) . I forgive you :-) ).

I will do my best to celebrate my birthday this evening with some friends…

Thank you Janet for this coffee, with candle and tiny cake this morning!
