Last weekend Laurens and me went to Genoa participating the wedding of the year. Our Italian friends finally made it after living together a couple of years and made the dream of a perfect wedding come true. The said “Yes” to each other in a small church on top of a little hill in the area of Sestri Levante. And now I’m in real trouble finding words to describe how incredible this event was. Only that much: I will cherish these moments for the rest of my life and will tell my grandchildren about it for sure.
Because the two of them are definitely special for me, I decided to make a wedding shawl for them as soon as I got to know, that they will marry. I thumbed through my pattern books and found a suitable piece I could knit for them: “Frost Flowers and Leaves” by Eugen Beugler published in A Gathering of Lace.
Because two different patterns repeat I thought as a good symbol for the two of them.
The diagonal lines of leafs for me symbolize the ways of our lives that crossed.
I enjoyed working on that piece a lot and the 6 month it took me to finish it were worth the moment I gave the present to them. Unforgettable beaming of joy and happiness both had on their face while holding each other dancing.
